Economic Benefits
Though we are all facing tough economic times right now, we feel that the Plant Facilities Levy offers the following economic benefits:
- This is a local economic stimulus package, the $47 million that will be spent on facility improvements represents a potential boost
for qualified local contractors. This school district is committed to hiring local contractors who are qualified with Public Works Licenses,
or helping them obtain the licenses they need.
- Maintaining and repairing over $120 million in
infrastructure is a sound business practice.
- Model schools attract new families to the area.
- Blaine County School District is committed to responsible
business practices, while planning for the future, we
will not spend tax payer money on additional construction if
enrollment declines.
Right now the school district predicts we will need a new
elementary school and additions to the middle school. All of
our data shows this but we are committed to reevaluating this in
three years to see if a new building is really needed. We
promise to not use the money on additional construction if
enrollment declines. If it’s not needed, it will not be
collected. Our history proves that over the past 25 years the
school district has not collected over $30 million it was
authorized by the State of Idaho to collect in non-voter
approved levies.
Investing in students is the solution to our economic
challenges. We are producing the next generation of leaders in
our community, students who learn sustainable practices and have
access to the most current technology are going to have access
to the top jobs of the future. This will impact our local
economy. These students will lead us into the future and out of
our current situation.
Levy CommitteeIn order to fulfill the community's intent developed through the
Strategic Planning Process last year, a Plant Facilities Levy
Team has been established. Members have been chosen to
represent each area of our total community, and are currently
prioritizing these projected expenditures into normal
operational budget items, and those necessary to take to the
public for their approval on a plant facilities levy.
